November 2021 Southeast Asia-the next sanitary product market with the most growth potential

The global nonwoven materials and disposable sanitary products industry is growing steadily at a faster rate than the average development of the world economy. China has been leading the world for many years in a row. The belt and Road Initiative launched by China is going global, and Asia has become the locomotive of world economic development.  After the rapid development of China, emerging economies in Southeast Asia and surrounding areas are the next market with the greatest growth potential.

Southeast Asia refers to all the countries south of China and east of India, including brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, East Timor and Vietnam, a total of 11 countries.  In 2015, the region had a population of 640 million, with 10 million births annually, 300 million women and 40 million elderly people.  The region, which has twice the population of the US, has roughly the same proportion of newborns as the US, but a much smaller proportion of older people.

Among these five countries, Indonesia has the largest market for sanitary products. Its major investment in sanitary products began in the early 1980s with Softex. It started to produce feminine care products and then moved into the market of HappyNappy, SweetyBaby,  Now it is producing Confidence adult care products.  In the late 1990s, unika and Thai company DSGGroup entered the Indonesian market.  In 2010, Unika, Softex, Kao and Procter & Gamble went on an investment spree in Indonesia.

The region is extremely attractive for producers of nonwovens and disposable hygiene products, and the market will become increasingly competitive as local players gain strength and new players continue to try to enter.

As in all developing regions, end consumers in Southeast Asia want to buy good hygiene products as their economic conditions improve.  End consumers, especially first-time consumers, value quality and value for money above all else.

Bangkok has convenient transportation, developed tourism and high degree of internationalization. It is also the exhibition center in Southeast Asia.  In addition to southeast Asian countries, the exhibition held in Bangkok also radiates to neighboring countries and regions, including South Asia where India is located, the Middle East, North Africa, Turkey and so on.  Most of the equipment and raw materials needed for the nonwovens and disposable sanitary products industry in Southeast Asia are imported from overseas, and the market for nonwovens rolls and products is huge and offers unlimited opportunities.
